“They said again, “Please, Your Majesty. Tell us the dream, and we will tell you what it means.” The king replied, “I know what you are doing! You’re stalling for time because you know I am serious when I say, ‘If you don’t tell me the dream, you are doomed.’ So you have conspired to tell me lies, hoping I will change my mind. But tell me the dream, and then I’ll know that you can tell me what it means.” Daniel 2:7-9
The King had his doubts about the wise men of his court. He did not have much faith in them telling him what the dream means so he knew that if they could tell him what the dream was they could tell him the meaning. These wise men only knew the worldly way or they were of Satan. There is only one thing that is true and reliable, the Bible, God’s Word; the Bible is still the best-selling book in the world. The Bible is the only Book in the world which tells the origination of man, where he has been, where he is, and where he is going. The bible is about one-third history, one third prophecy and one-third instruction.
The hand of the Lord was in all that was happening. God engineered the events, so Daniel could be brought on the scene, to which the Lord would give the revelation of the dream and interpretation. God was involved in the affairs of Daniel and all the Hebrew children at that time, just as God is involved in the Christian’s life today. He is more involved in our lives because today we have the Holy Spirit to guide us.
There was much more at stake than meets the eye. These magicians, astrologers, and sorcerers were ministers of the gods of Babylon. These men were supposed to receive answers from these gods and they were paid very well for their services. When the King demanded that they tell him the dream, and give its meaning, the power of the gods was at stake.
