“The astrologers replied to the king, “No one on earth can tell the king his dream! And no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked such a thing of any magician, enchanter, or astrologer! The king’s demand is impossible. No one except the gods can tell you your dream, and they do not live here among people.” Daniel 2:10-11
The astrologers were telling the truth, no one on earth could tell the King his dream, but God can do anything. We see this as Daniel not only tells the King his dream; he tells him what it means and Daniel gave all the glory to God. Despite all their wisdom – real and imagined – these wise men had no answer for Nebuchadnezzar, because only God could bring an answer to the king. They were like some modern ministers of our own day who spend their time studying philosophy, psychiatry, psychology, social science, political science, and then continue under the pretense of being God’s messengers to men. The strategy of the wise men was to convince the king that he was unreasonable, not that they were incompetent.
As far as these pagan magicians, astrologers, and wise men knew, this was true. They did not know what we know so plainly since the revelation of Jesus – that He is Immanuel, God with us. “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.” (Matthew 1:23)
We as believer are to be led by the Holy Spirit. We are guided, empowered, directed by the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is leading it will always be according to the Word of God, the Bible. If the leading is not in accord with the Bible, it is not of God. We are being led by the spirit of Satan if it is not in accord with God’s Word.
