“So at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the horn, flute, harp, and lyre, in symphony with all kinds of music, all the people, nations, and languages fell down and worshiped the gold image which King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.” Daniel 3:7
Music is a powerful spiritual tool which can be used by both the evil kingdom and the heavenly kingdom. Therefore Nebuchadnezzar took music to use it to make people bow down to his kingdom. I was saved out of the nightclub and partying scene. After being saved I attended my first contemporary Christian concert. As I listened to the music, I felt that there was not any difference in this music and the music I listened to in the nightclubs. I still feel the same way today. It is not God’s music, it is Satan’s music. I have attended churches where they give you ear plugs when you come in the door. Music like this does not glorify God. This is the music that the King used.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego did not bow down and worship the image when the music played, and the three were cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. We will see soon how God protected them in the furnace.
And what wonder, considering that all the charms of music were made use of to allure them to compliance on the one hand, and the terrors of the fiery furnace to frighten them into it on the other? Thus beset with the double temptation of allurement and terror, they all yielded to the will of the idolatrous king. There is nothing so unreasonable, or sinful, which the careless world will not be drawn to by pleasure, or driven to by pain, and fear of torture and death. By such methods as these, false worship has been set up and maintained in different ages.
Was Satan the head musician? This cannot be answered definitively. Scripture does not say enough about what his duties were in heaven. Considering the fact that the angels constantly worship God, it is possible that Satan led that worship.
