We just completed the study of Daniel 9. This is one of the most challenging and important prophetic passages in all of God’s Word. I completed verses 9:1-24 last week before leaving for camp meeting. I knew that the last three verses were going to be difficult. I prayed the entire camp meeting that God would give me His wisdom to write so that you may understand how important this prophecy is to Israel and also to us as Christians. Why is Daniel important for us today?
Hope for the future: Reading God’s prophecies is like reading the last page of a romantic novel and discovering that the guy gets the girl after all. Prophecy tells us that Christ is coming to rule and to reign forever. There is healing for the world when He returns.
Confidence in the present: I know that I can endure in any trouble that comes my way because I know who is in control of the future and what the future holds. The hearts of many are failing because they don’t know God’s prophetic story.
Holiness in living: The sure knowledge of Christ’s appearing is motivation for us to keep ourselves pure. What children are not on their best behavior knowing that their parents will be home soon?
Reasons to share the Good News: Our world is full of confusion and hurting people, people who are overwhelmed by the deteriorating morality of society and the chaotic world. For those who think all the news is bad, prophecy provides refreshing and encouraging good news.
Prophecy uplifts the Body of Christ: “But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” (1 Corinthians 14:3)
