“And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in these times.” Daniel 11:6
The nations here are Egypt (south) and Syria (north), and the rulers change regularly. All of these peoples and events may not be interesting to you, but the prophecies Daniel recorded tells us the record of history. Daniel’s prophecies shows that God can be trusted and that all of the prophecies in God’s Word is true. Most of these prophecies have already happened but Daniel gave them some 200 years before they happened. These prophecies have to do with Israel and with that we should be interested in them because what is coming in the end has everything to do with Israel. Studying these prophecies give us insight into Israel’s history.
About seventy years after Alexander’s death, the Lagidae and the Seleucidae will come together, but not in sincerity. Ptolemy Philadelphus, king of Egypt, will marry his daughter Berenice to Antiochus Theos, king of Syria, who already had a wife called Laodice. Berenice shall come to the king of the north, to make an agreement, but it will not last. She will not retain the power neither she nor her descendants will establish themselves in the kingdom of the north, neither shall Ptolemy her father, nor Antiochus her husband. Antiochus divorced Berenice, took his former wife Laodice again, who soon after poisoned him, procured Berenice and her son to be murdered, and set up her own son by Antiochus to be king, who was called Seleucus Callinicus. Israel was in the middle of this mess and suffered with these kingdoms fighting. We think we have problems in our nations today. It is nothing compared to what was happening in these kingdoms. We see the problems then are the same problems we have today. The problem is sin.
