“Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.” Ephesians 4:1
The soldier is summoned to a life of active service, and so is the Christian. The nature of the calling preludes a life of ease. If you have thought to be a summer soldier, consider your commission carefully. Your spiritual orders are rigorous. In Ephesians, Paul tells us that we need to be worthy of our calling. We are all called to do something for God. We all have a calling of God on our lives. Some are called just to be a witness for God in the work place. Some are called to be faithful in a church. I was saved nearly forty years ago. It was a wonderful experience and I was happy just knowing and enjoying my new friend, Jesus. Then of all things, God called me to the ministry. Life has not been the same since then. I feel that I have failed God on so many ways. I know there have been times that I missed God’s blessing because I was not obedient. The fight just got more than I could handle. The problem was, God did not want me to handle anything; he had it all under control. I am writing this for someone out there that has said that they cannot handle it any more. We handle this by doing what it says in Hebrews. “We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (Hebrews 12:2)
