The problem with studying prophecy is that we become too focused on just the prophecy. It is possible to be focused on the glorious light that will surround the appearing of Jesus Christ at the end of the age that we forget being the light of the world as we await His coming. It is possible to be so focused on the light at the end of the tunnel that we forget our responsibility to be the light in the tunnel along the way. Don’t get too caught up in the prophecy; get caught up in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Obedience is the key to being blessed by God. The book of Revelation teaches us how to be obedient – especially in the light of the last days. It reveals the events that will take place and helps us to prepare for judgement that is coming and the return of Jesus Christ. Israel was unprepared for what God wanted to do. Israel rebelled and missed out on the opportunity of participating with God in His plan. We must be prepared for what God is going to do as He establishes His kingdom. This book teaches us how to position ourselves, in the place that God wants us to be, doing what He wants us to do, so that we can be found faithful.
“This is all the more urgent, for you know how late it is; time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living.” (Romans 13:11-12)
“God is the director and producer of the final drama. That is why we can be quietly confident – not because we know exactly what God is doing in this unpredictable world, but because we know that what is unpredictable to us is already predicated to Him.” (Sinclair Ferguson)
