Jeremiah 2:4-5

August 25, 2022 by barry

“Listen to the word of the Lord, people of Jacob—all you families of Israel! This is what the Lord says: “What did your ancestors find wrong with me that led them to stray so far from me? They worshiped worthless idols, only to become worthless themselves.” Jeremiah 2:4-5

God called the house of Israel to account for their rejection of Him and their pursuit of idols. He asked to know what fault there was in Him that caused their idolatry. Without doubt this is one of the great passages of Scripture. Notice the wonderful way in which God approaches them: “What did I do wrong that you have turned from Me?” In our day, my friend, what is wrong with God that we are not more interested in Him? Why are we not serving Him? Is there unrighteousness with God? Is God doing something wrong today? He asks, “What iniquity have your fathers found in me?”

This is the question today, why have we left God? We are just like the people of Israel. God has blessed us yet we don’t want to acknowledge Him. I know that I ran from God for a long time. I never stopped believing in God; I just did not want to follow Him. I wanted to do my own thing. God was with me the entire time that I was running from Him. I was looking for God in all the wrong places. Our nation is doing the same thing. They are looking for God in the world and you will never find what you are looking for until you come to Him and give Jesus your life. “If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it.” (Matthew 10:39) There is no truer statement than this one in Matthew. “What a bargain, I give up my filthy rags of self-reliance and good works. I lay aside my worn-out shoes of striving. I leave behind my sleepless nights on the streets of doubt and fear. And in return I get adopted by a King.” (David Wilkerson) I will never go back to the days before I gave my life to Jesus Christ. He makes life worth living.
