“This is what the Lord says: “Look! A great army coming from the north! A great nation is rising against you from far-off lands. They are armed with bows and spears. They are cruel and show no mercy. They sound like a roaring sea as they ride forward on horses. They are coming in battle formation, planning to destroy you, beautiful Jerusalem.” Jeremiah 6:22-23
It looks like God does not care what happens to Judah. God will get our attention one way or the other. I was saved over forty years ago. Shortly after I was saved God started calling me to the ministry. I could not understand how that was possible. I went to the altar one Sunday morning and I was to tell the church that I was called to the ministry. Not me, I could not believe this was possible. My pastor’s wife at lunch that day made the comment that she just knew I was going to say that I was called. I continued to fight my calling. Then I got pneumonia and had to go to the hospital. It did not take me long before I answered God’s call. God got my attention. God will do whatever it takes to get our attention. Getting our attention is one way God shows His love for us. God will never give up on us; He is always trying to bring us to Him. This is what God is doing to Judah. This is what God is doing to our nation today, we are just not listening.
“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones God’s messengers! How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings, but you wouldn’t let me. And now, look, your house is abandoned and desolate.” (Matthew 23:37-38)
