“This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Take your burnt offerings and your other sacrifices and eat them yourselves! When I led your ancestors out of Egypt, it was not burnt offerings and sacrifices I wanted from them. This is what I told them: ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!” Jeremiah 7:21-23
The flesh of the burned offering was forbidden to be eaten. God was telling them that they could eat any of the offering that they wanted, because they were not sacrifices with the right heart. “But Samuel replied, “What is more pleasing to the Lord: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22) God was reminding the people that obedience was better than sacrifices.
Today we see truth in this scripture. God is looking for the person that will obey His voice and do what He is telling them. As I start the New Year, I ask God what is my scripture for the year. My scripture this year is: “Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” (Revelation 3:22) I feel that God is telling me that this year I need to listen to His spirit and obey. This is what we all need to do. God is telling me that I need to open up more of my ministry. He is leading me to start an email newsletter. As I always do I have been having some discussion with God on this subject. You would think that after all these years I would have learned to just do it. Not me, I am so hard headed I have to have a discussion with God. I will never win in this discussion because more than anything else in my life I want to be in God’s perfect will. The last sentence in this scripture is the key to it all. ‘Obey me, and I will be your God, and you will be my people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!” Please pray for us as we obey what God is telling me. Let others know about our Bible Studies. I want to reach as many as I can for Jesus.
